Penstemon (Plantaginaceae) for Flora of North America
Field and herbarium studies of the genus Penstemon (Plantaginaceae) are continuing, building on nearly three years of work that resulted in the completion in 2011 of the first modern, comprehensive treatment of the genus. In 2013, field work was carried out in the Southern and Middle Rocky Mountains, Colorado Plateau, and Wyoming Basin, yielding nearly 450 specimens that are being used for morphological, cytological, molecular, and biogeographic studies. Studies to date have verified determinations for and compiled label data from nearly 25,000 specimens from more than 30 herbaria.
